When Irish and English Eyes Were Smiling
Members and wives of the Lodge of Concord No. 6859 received a typically warm Irish welcome when visiting Northern Ireland for an extended weekend in February.
Hosts W.Bro Phil Brunt an old friend of W.Bro Norman Reekie from his African days as Members of Port Harcourt Lodge in Nigeria and who is now a PM and Secretary of Clough Lodge No 576 Meeting in Clough, Pronounced “Clock” in County Antrim and his wife Heather treated them to a traditional Irish breakfast on their early morning arrival from Belfast Airport which set them up for an action-packed weekend.
Visiting The Lodge of Fellowship No 530 in Belfast City Centre as guests of W.Bro Peter Cherry a work colleague of W.Bro Dorward on the Friday evening the members of Lodge of Concord No. 6859 advanced their Masonic knowledge, witnessing an immaculate Installation ceremony carried out totally in the 1st degree that, whilst differing substantially in content from English Ritual, lost none of its lustre or charm. The meeting was followed by a sumptuous festive board and Irish harmony at The Ulster Reform Club in Belfast.
The weekend continued with an evening’s entertainment at the local Masonic Hall courtesy of Irish Elvis as well as an inevitable trip to the shops for the ladies and a tour around the rambling Antrim Hills and beautiful rugged coastline.
Of course, a trip to Northern Ireland would not be complete without a visit to the Bushmills Distillery whereupon several glasses were raised to toast a successful trip, our hosts and also the health of W.Bro’s Norman Reekie PJGD and Alan Hughes PPrJGW who were sadly unable to attend due to ill health.
